In biology and medicine, a host is a larger organism that harbours a smaller organism, which may be a parasite, a mutualist, or a commensalist guest (symbiont). The guest is typically provided with nourishment and shelter. Hosts are central to understanding symbiotic relationships, including parasitism, mutualism, and commensalism, and play a key role in the life cycles of many organisms.
